Cross-Currency Digital Payment Limitations

Last updated: October 9, 2026

Tabs collects payments for US-based businesses invoicing in US dollars. This article covers what that includes, what it doesn't, and how to handle a customer who falls outside it.

What's supported

If your business is based in the US and holds a US bank account, you can collect payments through Tabs—on Tabs Pay or through a connected Stripe account—for any invoice billed in USD.

Where your customer is located doesn't matter. A customer anywhere in the world can pay a USD invoice with an international card. They get the same payment link, the same portal, and the same experience as a US customer, and autocharge works the same way too.

What determines whether Tabs can collect a payment is the currency on the invoice, not the customer's location.

What isn't supported

Invoices in a currency other than USD. A non-USD invoice doesn't carry a payment link, so your customer can't pay it through the Tabs portal, and autocharge doesn't run against it. You can still create, send and track the invoice in Tabs or collect using wire.

Businesses based outside the US. If your business isn't US-based and doesn't hold a US bank account, you can't collect payments through Tabs Pay or through a Stripe account connected to Tabs. That applies to all of your customers, including the ones you invoice in USD. Use wire or manual payments (outside of Tabs) instead.

ACH for businesses outside the US. ACH is a US banking system, so it's available only to businesses with a US bank account.

Handling a customer you can't collect from through Tabs

Invoice them in Tabs as you normally would, collect the payment outside Tabs—a wire, a bank transfer, or whatever local arrangement you already use—and then record the payment against the invoice. Mark the invoice as paid without recording a payment from the system.

Your reporting, revenue recognition and aging all stay accurate this way. The only part that happens elsewhere is the collection itself.
