How to Connect Sphere Tax to Tabs

Overview
Sphere is a tax automation platform that integrates with Tabs to calculate sales tax, manage tax exemptions, validate addresses, and support tax filing workflows.
Sphere serves as the system of record for tax calculations, tax code mappings, exemption certificates, and tax filings.
Once connected, Tabs automatically requests tax calculations from Sphere when invoices are generated and sent.
Before You Begin
You must have:
Admin access in Tabs
Admin access in Sphere
An active Sphere account
Step 1: Generate a Tabs API Key
In Tabs, navigate to Developers.
Click Add API Key.
Enter a name for the key (for example, "Sphere Integration").
Select Editor access.
Click Create API Key.
Copy and save the API key.
The API key is only displayed once. If it is lost, a new key must be generated.
Step 2: Connect Tabs in Sphere
Log in to Sphere.
Navigate to Integrations.
Locate the Tabs integration.
Click Connect.
Paste the Tabs API key.
Complete the setup process in Sphere.
Step 3: Connect Sphere in Tabs
In Tabs, navigate to Integrations.
Open the Tax section.
Select Sphere.
Paste the Sphere API key.
Click Connect.
Once connected, Sphere becomes the active tax provider for your Tabs account.
Verify the Connection
After setup:
The Sphere integration should display a Connected status.
Tax calculations will begin automatically on eligible invoices.
Address validation and tax exemption workflows will be available through Sphere.
Reconnecting Sphere
If credentials expire or are rotated:
Open the Sphere integration in Tabs.
Click Reconnect.
Enter a new Sphere API key.
Save your changes.
The integration will resume automatically once the connection is restored.
